On November 25, 2024, our "Introduction to Korean Culture" class took a meaningful andenjoyable trip to the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea. Sixteen enthusiastic students joined me, Professor Aura Lydia Riswanto, for this educational and reflective outing. The cemetery, a site of historical and global significance, provided a serene and inspiring environment that deeply resonated with all participants.

The group walked together to the cemetery, enjoying the pleasant weather, engaging in lively discussions about Korea's rich history, and sharing moments of laughter along the way. Upon arrival, the students were amazed by the beautifully maintained park, which honors the memory of soldiers from various nations who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War.

While exploring the cemetery’s memorials, the students reflected on the importance of international cooperation and peace. At the same time, they expressed joy in discovering the tranquil surroundings and the thoughtful design of the space. The meticulously maintained grounds provided an ideal setting for both thoughtful learning and bonding as a group.

Throughout the visit, the students balanced their reflective moments with a sense of fun, capturing photos, sharing their impressions, and connecting with the history of the site in a meaningful yet lighthearted way. They expressed heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices made by the individuals honored there and for the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.

This visit not only enhanced the students' understanding of Korean history and its connection to the global community but also served as a moment of cultural, historical, and personal enrichment. The group departed with a deeper appreciation for the values of sacrifice, remembrance, and unity, as well as shared memories of a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

The experience was truly impactful, leaving both the students and me with lasting memories and valuable lessons about Korea’s cultural heritage, the broader context of international relations, and the joy of learning together.
